In a stunning display of resilience and skill, Zimbabwe triumphed over Pakistan in the opening ODI of their three-match series, winning by 80 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
Sikandar Raza and Richard Ngarava guide Zimbabwe to 200+
Zimbabwe, after being put into bat, found themselves in a precarious position at 125 for 7. However, a crucial partnership between Sikandar Raza and Richard Ngarava turned the tide. The duo added 62 runs for the eighth wicket, with Raza scoring 39 runs and Ngarava contributing an impressive 48 runs off just 51 balls. Their efforts propelled Zimbabwe to a total of 205, with the team being bowled out before the end of the 41st over.
Pakistan’s bowling attack featured debutant left-arm wrist spinner Faisal Akram, who impressed with figures of 3 for 24, while off-spinner Salman Agha also claimed three wickets for 42 runs. Despite these efforts, Zimbabwe’s lower order managed to stabilize the innings and set a challenging target.
Pakistan’s batting collapse
In reply, Pakistan struggled against Zimbabwe’s bowling attack right from the start. Quick wickets fell as they slumped to 60 for 6 within 21 overs. Zimbabwe’s quick bowler Blessing Muzarabani was instrumental in dismantling Pakistan’s top order, taking two early wickets that set the tone for the innings. With play halted after 21 overs due to rain, Zimbabwe were declared the winner via the DLS method.

Sikandar Raza was adjudged the Player of the Match for his all-round performance of 39 runs with the bat and 2/7 with the ball.
