Pat Cummins on BGT 2024-25

The highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 is set to reignite the fierce cricket rivalry between India and Australia. Known for producing some of the most intense and closely fought Test matches, the series will once again bring two of the world’s best cricketing nations face-to-face in a five-Test battle. The excitement around the series is palpable as cricket fans eagerly await the contest, which will see the teams competing across Australia’s iconic venues.

With India currently holding the coveted trophy, Australia will be determined to regain their dominance on home soil. The series is expected to feature world-class performances, gripping moments, and high stakes, making it one of the most anticipated events in the cricketing calendar.

Pat Cummins shares his take on the exciting battle

Australia captain Pat Cummins has weighed in on the upcoming series, emphasizing the evenly matched nature of the competition. Cummins, who led Australia to victory in the World Test Championship, believes the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will once again be a tight contest.

“The most recent Test match was, of course, the World Test Championship in neutral conditions, and we came out on top in that match. It’s always fiercely competitive, and it always feels like it’s 50-50. I’m 10 out of 10 excited for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” Cummins told Star Sports.

The Australian skipper’s comments reflect the respect both teams have for each other, with India and Australia known for their resilience and ability to thrive under pressure.

Making amends: reflecting on recent series

Australia’s recent record against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been less than ideal. The last two series held in Australia saw India emerge victorious, winning the 2018-19 and 2020-21 series in dramatic fashion. These defeats have fueled Australia’s desire to turn the tide in the upcoming series, and Cummins is determined to make amends for the losses.

“The last two series here in Australia, we haven’t been successful, so it’s been a long time. Hopefully, it’s time to make amends. You know, we’ve played them plenty of times where they’ve beaten us, but we’ve also had plenty of wins against them as well, which we’ll draw confidence from,” added Cummins.

Notably, Australia last won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2014-15, and they will be eager to reclaim the title on home turf after nearly a decade.
