In a gripping practice session at the nets, Pakistan‘s cricketing stars Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman were challenged by the fiery bowling of Ubaid Shah, the 18-year-old prodigy and younger brother of renowned paceman Naseem Shah.
Ubaid Shah leaves Pakistan batting duo struggling in the net session
Babar, Pakistan’s stalwart captain across all formats, with an illustrious international record boasting over 13,000 runs, appeared visibly tested by Ubaid’s relentless deliveries. The young bowler’s ability to extract pace and movement seemed to trouble even the seasoned campaigners
Joining Babar in the struggle was Fakhar, the only Pakistani batsman to notch a double-century in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). He also found himself grappling with Ubaid’s deceptive variations and pinpoint accuracy.

Ubaid’s potential rise in Pakistan cricket
Ubaid, having recently represented Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), showcased his potential on the international stage earlier this year during the Under-19 Men’s ODI World Cup 2024. There, he left an indelible mark by claiming an impressive tally of 18 wickets in just six matches, maintaining an enviable economy rate of 4.17. His stellar performance in the tournament saw him clinch the title of the second-highest wicket-taker, sharing the honour with Indian spinner Saumya Pandey.
The emergence of Ubaid as a formidable bowling talent has sparked speculation about his potential inclusion in Pakistan’s senior squad in the near future. With his raw pace, knack for picking crucial wickets, and a growing reputation on both domestic and international fronts, Ubaid Shah stands poised to follow in the footsteps of his elder brother Naseem who is already a pivotal figure in Pakistan’s cricketing landscape.
