The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 kicked off in electrifying fashion at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas, with the host nation, United States of America (USA), registering a record victory over their North American neighbours, Canada.

Canada sets an imposing target

Canada, after put in to bat first, posted a competitive total of 194/5 on the board. Navneet Dhaliwal (61 runs) and Nicholas Kirton (51 runs) were the stars of the show for Canada, anchoring their innings with impressive half-centuries. The American bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs, with Harmeet Singh (1/27) being the only bowler to deliver economical figures.

USA reaches home with ease

In reply, the USA chased down the target with 7 wickets in hand and 2.2 overs to spare, showcasing their batting prowess. Aaron Jones (94 not out off 40 balls) was the hero for the USA, smashing a brilliant knock laced with 4 fours and a whopping 10 sixes. Andries Gous (65 runs) provided valuable support at the top of the order, ensuring a smooth chase. The Canadian bowlers failed to contain the American batters, despite getting a brilliant start in the powerplay.
