Team India got the better of England in the second semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 at Providence Stadium in Guyana. India delivered a commanding performance and defeated the English side to book their spot in the all-important final of the exciting tournament. India will now face South Africa in the summit clash on June 29.
Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav shine with the bat
After being put into bat by England, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front, scoring a vital 57 off 39 balls. Despite early wickets, Sharma’s innings, laced with 6 fours and 2 sixes, set the tone for India’s innings. India’s middle order, particularly Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya, contributed crucial runs to guide their team to a competitive total of 171/7 in 20 overs. Suryakumar’s composed 47 off 36 balls, along with Pandya’s explosive 23 off 13, ensured that India maintained a steady run rate. Contributions from Ravindra Jadeja (17 off 9) and a few handy runs from the tailenders pushed the score further, putting England under pressure.
England’s bowling unit, led by Chris Jordan‘s impressive figures of 3/37 in 3 overs, managed to restrict India’s aggressive batters at crucial junctures. Reece Topley, Jofra Archer, Sam Curran, and Adil Rashid each picked up a wicket, but India’s consistent batting left England chasing a challenging target.
England falter in the chase
In response, England’s batting lineup crumbled under the pressure of a disciplined Indian bowling attack. Openers Philip Salt and Jos Buttler got off to a shaky start, with Salt falling early for 5. Although Buttler attempted to stabilize the innings with a quick 23 off 15 balls, England kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Harry Brook top-scored with 25 off 19, but his efforts were in vain as the rest of the lineup failed to offer significant resistance.
Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav dominate
India’s spinners, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, were the stars of the bowling innings, both claiming three wickets each. Axar’s 3/23 in 4 overs and Kuldeep’s 3/19 in 4 overs dismantled England’s middle and lower order. Jasprit Bumrah also chipped in with 2 wickets for 12 runs in his 2.4 overs, while Jadeja and Arshdeep Singh kept the pressure on with economical spells.
India’s dominant win
India eventually bowled out England for just 103 in 16.4 overs, securing a resounding 68-run victory. This comprehensive win not only highlighted India’s batting depth but also their formidable bowling attack. Axar’s all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match award, marking a memorable day for the Indian team as they marched confidently into the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Jasprit Bumrah at the top and the bottom and Kuldeep Yadav in the middle. This is an incredibly formidable Indian attack, even if that statement does sound a bit racy #T20WorldCup
