The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season has been nothing short of spectacular, showcasing the brilliance of both seasoned veterans and emerging talents. Among the rising stars, one name that has been making waves is Abhishek Sharma of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). His recent match-winning performance against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was not just a display of skill but also a testament to the support and mentorship he has received along the way.
CSK’s subpar batting display
In the eighteenth match of the tournament, Chennai Super Kings set a competitive total of 165/5 in their 20 overs. Despite notable contributions from their batters, they couldn’t quite accelerate in the final overs to set an imposing target. Sunrisers’ bowlers, led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, and Pat Cummins, put up a disciplined performance to restrict the opposition.
Abhishek Sharma’s blistering knock sets the tone for chase
In response, Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down the target with relative ease, thanks in large part to the heroics of Abhishek. His blistering knock of 37 runs off just 12 balls, including four sixes, turned the game in his team’s favor. Alongside Aiden Markram (50) and Travis Head (31), Abhishek guided Sunrisers to a convincing victory. He even received the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his stellar knock.

Abhishek thanks his dad and two veteran cricketers
After the match, Abhishek expressed his gratitude to his father, Yuvraj Singh and Brian Lara. The mention of Yuvraj and Lara highlighted the influence of these cricketing legends on Abhishek’s career. Yuvraj, known for his aggressive batting and all-round abilities, has served as a mentor figure for Abhishek, providing valuable guidance and support. Similarly, Lara, one of the greatest batters of all time, contributed to Abhishek’s development during his tenure as the chief coach of the SRH team.
“We knew if we take the powerplay on, we can go with the flow after that. We had a chance to prepare well before this IPL. Big scores do matter (individual scores), but I went with the flow today. Special thanks to Yuvi paaji, Brian Lara, and my dad for this,” said Abhishek.
