The tenth clash of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 featuring Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium brimmed with standout moments and stellar performances from both teams.
The contest started with RCB’s Virat Kohli showcasing his prowess, while the second innings witnessed a fiery display from KKR’s batters, particularly Sunil Narine and Phil Salt, who relentlessly hammered RCB’s bowlers across the field. Yet, amidst the onslaught, Mayank Dagar provided RCB with a much-needed respite by dismantling the formidable partnership and dismissing Narine with a delivery of exquisite beauty.
RCB sets a competitive total: Virat Kohli’s dominance
Asked to bat first, RCB set a competitive total of 182/6 in their allotted 20 overs, courtesy of Kohli’s scintillating unbeaten knock of 83 runs off just 59 deliveries. The former Bengaluru skipper was well supported by Cameron Green (33), Glenn Maxwell (28), and Dinesh Karthik (20).

KKR’s explosive response: Sunil Narine and Phil Salt wreak havoc
KKR’s response was swift and aggressive, with their openers blazing away to fifty runs in just three overs. Narine (47 runs off 22 deliveries) and Salt (30 runs off 20 balls) seemed unstoppable as they formed a formidable partnership, putting the RCB bowlers under immense pressure. Narine, in particular, looked set to wreak havoc on the opposition until Mayank intervened with a moment of brilliance.
With the match tilting in KKR’s favour, Mayank produced a delivery that gave the crowd of Chinnaswamy a reason to celebrate. The RCB spinner executed a perfect yorker that crashed into Narine’s off-stump, leaving the crowd in awe and Dagar himself pumped up. Narine, who was shaping up for an explosive innings, had his stumps shattered and missed on a well-deserved fifty.

Impact of Dagar’s breakthrough
The significance of Dagar’s breakthrough cannot be overstated. Not only did it halt KKR’s momentum, but it also swung the momentum back in RCB’s favor, breathing new life into the contest. With Narine back in the pavilion, RCB looked more confident but couldn’t seize the opportunity to tighten their grip on the match and eventually went on to lose the contest by seven wickets.
