Chris Woakes cleans up Tom Latham with an absolute jaffa

The third ODI of the four-match series between England and New Zealand lived up to the expectations of cricket fans worldwide, delivering an exhilarating contest between the two formidable teams. The match took place at the Kennington Oval in London on September 13 and saw England securing a resounding 181-run win over the Blackcaps.

Asked to bat first, England displayed a formidable batting performance and posted a mammoth total of 368/10 in 48.1 overs. The standout performance for the hosts came from Ben Stokes, who hammered a brilliant ton and played a stunning innings of 182 runs off 124 balls. Stokes smashed 15 fours and nine sixes during his magnificent innings. Dawid Malan provided valuable support with 96 runs off 95 deliveries as well. Trent Boult was the pick of the New Zealand bowlers, claiming five wickets for 51 runs.

Chasing a challenging target, New Zealand struggled to find their rhythm and were bowled out for 187 runs in 39 overs. Glenn Phillips was the top scorer for New Zealand with 72 runs off 76 balls. England’s bowlers were on fire, with Liam Livingstone taking Chris Woakes grabbing three wickets. Among the three wickets Woakes picked, one came off a brilliant delivery that Kiwi skipper Tom Latham.

Chris Woakes bamboozles Tom Latham with a beautiful delivery

It all happened on the fifth ball of the 11th over when Woakes produced a quick delivery to Latham that swung back in and went right through the New Zealand batter as he reacted late on it. The ball ultimately crashed into the off and middle stump. Latham seemed surprised by the movement of the red leather while England players erupted in joy following the dismissal.

Coming back to the match, England’s dominant performance with both bat and ball led them to gain a 2-1 lead in the series. The Player of the Match award rightfully went to Stokes for his magnificent century and valuable contributions to England’s victory.
