New Zealand registers a series-clinching victory over Bangladesh

New Zealand locked horns with Bangladesh in the third and final One Day International (ODI) of the three-match series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday (September 26). The Blackcaps emerged victorious in the contest by seven wickets and clinched the series (2-0).

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Bangladesh innings was marked by some early struggles as they posted a total of 171 runs before being bowled out in 34.3 overs. Najmul Hossain Shanto was the standout performer for the home team, contributing a solid 76 runs from 84 balls supported by ten fours. However, the rest of the batting lineup faced difficulties against the Kiwi bowlers.

The New Zealand bowlers put up a commendable performance, with Adam Milne being the pick of the bunch and claiming four wickets for 34 runs in 6.3 overs. Trent Boult also made a significant impact with two wickets for 33 runs in 6 overs. The collective effort from the visiting team’s bowlers restricted Bangladesh to a below-par score.

Will Young and Henry Nicholls steer New Zealand to series-clinching victory

In reply, New Zealand’s top-order batter delivered a composed performance. Will Young was the star of the show, earning the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his impressive innings of 70 runs off 80 balls, which included ten fours and 1 six. Henry Nicholls provided solid support with 50 runs from 86 deliveries, featuring four fours and 1 six, and New Zealand comfortably reached the target of 172 in 34.5 overs with seven wickets in hand.

Shoriful Islam was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh, claiming two wickets for 32 runs in his six overs. However, the rest of the Bangladeshi bowlers struggled to make breakthroughs and eventually lost the game.

With this win, New Zealand also claimed the series (2-0). It is worth mentioning that the first ODI of the leg was abandoned due to rain.
