MI Cape Town unveil their coaching staff for the upcoming season of SA20

With the South African T20 tournament, SA20, on the horizon, MI Cape Town have unveiled their coaching staff in preparation for the upcoming season. The franchise, which had a challenging run in the previous edition of the tournament, is gearing up for a fresh start under the guidance of their newly appointed coaching team.

Robin Peterson takes the helm as Head Coach

MI Cape Town have entrusted former South African cricketer Robin Peterson with the role of head coach. Peterson, who previously served as the General Manager for the team in 2023, brings a wealth of experience and insight to the coaching position.

Under his leadership, the franchise aims to overcome the setbacks of the previous season when they finished at the bottom of the table with three wins in ten matches. Peterson has succeeded Simon Katich, who held the head coach position in the previous season.

Lasith Malinga joins as Bowling Coach

Former Sri Lankan fast-bowling sensation Lasith Malinga has been welcomed into the MI Cape Town coaching setup as the bowling coach. Malinga takes over from former New Zealand all-rounder Jacob Oram, and his expertise in the art of pace and swing is expected to be an invaluable asset to the team.

Hashim Amla continues as Batting Coach

Hashim Amla, the former South African cricketer known for his elegant strokeplay and impeccable technique, will continue in his role as the batting coach for MI Cape Town. Amla’s guidance and mentorship will be crucial for the team’s batsmen as they aim to deliver match-winning performances in the SA20 season.

Notably, MI Cape Town have retained a core group of players ahead of the SA20 auction. This includes Rashid Khan, the dynamic Afghan cricketer who captained the team in the previous season, along with star players like Kagiso Rabada, Dewald Brevis, and Sam Curran.

It is worth noting that both Peterson and Malinga were integral parts of MI New York’s title-winning campaign in the inaugural season of the USA’s Major League Cricket (MLC) earlier this year. Peterson served as the head coach, while Malinga took on the role of the bowling coach. Their experience in guiding a team to success in MLC bodes well for MI Cape Town’s aspirations in the SA20 season.
