Ab de Villiers on Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is undoubtedly one of the most accomplished player in the history of world cricket. The right-handed batter possesses magical statistics in all game formats, solidifying his status as a supreme figure in modern-day cricket.

In his recent century-scoring performance against Pakistan during the Asia Cup 2023, the former Indian skipper achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the fastest batter to accumulate 13,000 runs in One Day International (ODI) cricket.

At 34, when players like Alex Hales and Shane Watson bid farewell to the cricket world, Virat remains fiercely committed to unleashing the full might of his cricketing prowess in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. This World Cup will mark his fourth appearance in the ICC event.

Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers, who spent a considerable amount of time playing alongside Virat for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has recently opened up about his thoughts on hic close friend’s potential retirement from international cricket.

‘If they win this World Cup, it might not be a bad time to say’: AB de Villiers

De Villiers emphasized that if India emerges victorious in the upcoming ODI World Cup, it could be an opportune moment for Virat to bid farewell to the limited-overs format and focus on continuing his career in Test cricket and the IPL during the latter phase.

“I know he loves travelling to South Africa, but it’s very difficult to say. It is a long time away. Let’s focus on this one first, I think that’s what Virat Kohli would tell you. I think if they win this World Cup, it might not be a bad time to say, ‘Thank you very much. I am maybe just going to play Test cricket for the next few years and a little bit of IPL, enjoy the last bit of my career, have enough family time, and say goodbye to everyone” De Villiers said on his Youtube channel.

The former South African skipper also praised Virat’s physique and mentality, crediting the game rest he receives, considering it a prime move in bringing out his best.

“But he is in incredible shape and is mentally still there. He has been rested from time to time, which I think is a great move. So, I think the hunger and the fire will still be there,” the 39-year-old added.
