In the first game of the Sunday’s doubleheader in The Hundred Women 2023, Southern Brave emerged victorious against the Northern Superchargers by 5 wickets. Winning the toss, the Southern Brave elected to bowl first, a decision that proved fruitful as they restricted the Northern Superchargers to 100/8 in their allotted 100 balls.

Marie Kelly led the charge for the Superchargers with a resilient knock of 39 runs off 40 balls, while Hollie Armitage (21 runs off 19 balls) and Bess Heath (11 runs off 8 balls) provided valuable contributions. However, the Southern Brave’s bowlers were on top of their game, with Georgia Adams shining with figures of 3 wickets for 21 runs.

Chasing a modest target, the Southern Brave displayed composure and determination, reaching the target with 2.4 overs to spare, finishing at 102/5 in 87 balls. Maia Bouchier was the standout performer, playing a match-winning knock of 31 runs off 28 balls, supported by Danielle Wyatt (20 runs off 18 balls) and Smriti Mandhana (19 runs off 21 balls). The Superchargers’ bowlers fought back, with Linsey Smith and Georgia Wareham taking 2 wickets each, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Brave from securing a well-deserved victory.

Rhianna Southby was crowned the “Player of the Match” for her remarkable contribution behind the stumps, displaying excellent wicket-keeping skills and claiming crucial dismissals that swung the match in favor of the Southern Brave.

Welsh Fire triumphed over Oval Invincibles

In the second meeting, Welsh Fire triumphed over Oval Invincibles by 3 wickets. In a tactical decision, Welsh Fire elected to bowl after winning the toss, a choice that reaped rewards as they managed to pack Oval Invincibles on 80 runs.

Lauren Winfield showcased a valiant effort with her bat, scoring 42 runs off 35 balls, while the Welsh Fire’s bowling attack displayed a collective effort. Shabnim Ismail stood out with an exceptional bowling performance, taking 3 wickets for just 12 runs.

Chasing a target of 81 runs, Welsh Fire faced a few hiccups along the way but managed to secure victory, reaching 81/7 in 80 balls. Sophia Dunkley‘s aggressive knock of 28 runs off 21 balls and Georgia Elwiss‘ composed innings of 33 runs off 29 balls were instrumental in steering Welsh Fire toward the target.

Oval Invincibles’ bowlers put up a spirited fight, with Marizanne Kapp leading the charge with impressive figures of 4 wickets for 18 runs in her 4 overs. Ultimately, it was a thrilling contest that saw Welsh Fire emerge as the victors by 3 wickets. Ismail’s impactful all-round performance earned her the well-deserved “Player of the Match” accolade for her crucial contributions with both bat and ball.
