The Oval Invincibles squared off against the Manchester Originals in a high-octane The Hundred Men’s 2023 final clash at the iconic Lord’s cricket ground on Sunday (August 27). The atmosphere was charged with anticipation as the two teams battled it out for supremacy with the title on the line.

Manchester Originals won the toss and elected to bowl first. The decision was proved right as they managed to restrict the Oval Invincibles to a total of 161/5. However, the Oval’s innings was marked by a few noteworthy performances as Jimmy Neesham and Tom Curran emerged as the standout performers for their team. Tom’s remarkable innings of 67 runs from just 34 balls, featuring four fours and five sixes, played a major role in propelling the team to a competitive total. Meanwhile, Neesham’s explosive knock of 57 off 33 deliveries also provided the backbone for the Invincibles’ innings.

Manchester Originals’ bowlers put in a commendable effort to keep the opposition in check. Richard Gleeson and Josh Little were among the wickets, with Gleeson claiming two crucial scalps for 37 runs and Little taking one wicket for 21 runs. Paul Walter and Tom Hartley also chipped in with a wicket each.

Manchester Originals fails to chase the set target

In reply, the Manchester Originals faced a challenging task against a determined Oval bowling attack. Despite contributions from Philip Salt, Max Holden, and Jamie Overton, they fell short of their target, managing to reach a total of 147/6. Holden’s 37 off 25 deliveries and Overton’s quickfire 28 off 19 balls were valiant efforts, but the Oval bowlers maintained control over the proceedings.

Oval Invincibles’ bowlers showcased their prowess, with Sam Curran, Tom and Nathan Sowter each claiming a wicket apiece. Will Jacks also made a significant impact with the ball, taking two wickets for 11 runs. Despite Manchester Originals’ efforts, they couldn’t quite chase down the target, falling short by 14 runs.
