West Indies vs India, ODI series 2023

After an exciting Test series between West Indies and India, the focus now shifts to the upcoming three-match ODI leg. The ODIs will be played on a tight schedule, with games on July 27, July 29 and August 1, respectively. The first two ODIs are scheduled at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown (Barbados), followed by the third fixture at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad.

India claimed victory in the 2-match Test series, winning the first encounter by 141 runs and an innings. Although the hosts showed improvement in the 2nd Test, the contest eventually ended in a draw due to rain on Day 5.

In the second Test at Trinidad, India put up an impressive batting display, scoring 438 runs in their first innings. Virat Kohli shined with a century, marking his first overseas hundred in almost five years. Captain Rohit Sharma also contributed with half-centuries in both innings (80 & 57), while Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his good form with scores of 57 & 38. In the second innings, Ishan Kishan played a stellar knock, registering his maiden Test half-century with an unbeaten 52 off just 34 balls.

The West Indies struggled in their first innings, getting bowled out for 255 runs, with Mohammed Siraj achieving career-best figures of 5/60. Debutant pacer Mukesh Kumar and left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja also impressed, taking two wickets each. In the second innings, the West Indies were 76/2 when no further play was possible due to the bad weather conditions.

For India, the ODI series against the Windies is not just about winning, but also about fine-tuning their preparations for two major upcoming tournaments – the Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI World Cup 2023. The Men in Blue would like to make the most of the limited opportunities they have to test and strengthen their squad for these crucial events. On the other hand, the shocking losses versus Zimbabwe, Scotland and the Netherlands in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers were a setback for the West Indies, but they will be eager to put up a strong performance in the upcoming ODI series on their home turf.
